Brittany S. Speas, BA ’08

It was during the spring semester of her sophomore year at UNCG, in the middle of a “Law & Society” course taught by Dr. Saundra Westervelt, that Brittany knew that law school would be the means to her end of serving ostracized populations.
Brittany joined the Federal Public Defender’s Office for the Middle District of North Carolina in 2019 after spending several years as a criminal defense attorney with the Forsyth County Public Defender’s Office. Brittany graduated from Wake Forest University School of Law in 2012. While in law school, Brittany participated in various projects and courses focused on providing advocacy for “voiceless” individuals including the Innocence and Justice Clinic, the Darryl Hunt Project, the Racial Justice Act Project, the Domestic Violence Pro Bono Project, and she served on the executive board for Guardian ad Litem.  Brittany has made it her life mission to serve the under-served as she lives by the motto “to whom much is given much is required.” She graduated Magna Cum Laude from the Sociology Department at UNCG in 2008.
