Drs. Cureton and Dollar attend NCSA with Graduate Students

The annual North Carolina Sociological Association (NCSA) conference was held at High Point University on Friday, February 17th. Dr. Cureton and Dr. Dollar attended the conference with first-year graduate students Jerry Brand, Joseph Barker, Lakresha Brown and Natalie Cholula.  The title of this year’s conference was “Institutions of Transformation: The Quest for Social Justice.” Dr. Dollar was invited to organize a panel on criminology.  She brought together researchers from a variety of NC colleges and universities for a panel titled “The Racialization and Gendering of Crime, Deviance and Social Control.” Dr. Cureton presented his research on CHIRAQ: Oppression, Homicide, Concentrated Misery and Gangsterism.

Dr. Cureton did not conform to the 15-minute presentation time limit despite Dr. Dollar’s insistent (but quiet) probes that his time was running out, had run out, and had long expired.  Following the panel, Dr. Cureton posed with the time cues that he had previously ignored (smiley face here).
