Matthew Hodler, MA ’09

I completed comprehensive exams in spring 2012 and am now a PhD candidate in the Department of Health and Sport Studies at the University of Iowa.  I am currently teaching my own section of our introductory course “Inequality in American Sport” while I work on my dissertation proposal. My dissertation will build on my summer research trips to the Scottish Highlands over the last two summers by examining the Highland Games in the USA as a site for the performance of whiteness while investigating the relationships between and among sport, place, diaspora, trans/nationalism, ethnicity, and race.  I hope to graduate in the 2014 calendar year!
